Supervised physical therapy added to treatment for somatic tinnitus

Record details

What this research found

Adding a supervised physical-therapy program to photobiomodulation improved somatic tinnitus severity vs photobiomodulation alone (N=40). This tests PT as an ADD-ON, not standalone.

The '43% vs 12% decreased tinnitus after TMJ-disorder treatment' figure comes from Tullberg 2006 (separate study, cited in the treatment record), not this trial. Roughly 68–80% of tinnitus patients can modulate their tinnitus with jaw/head/neck maneuvers — the percept itself changes with the body.

Limitations and conflicts of interest

No large multicenter RCT yet; subtype definitions vary.

Funding / conflicts: Independent.
